As for the Shark Shield, it's pretty simple mate. Same thing applies as with radios in my opinion. If you're fishing inland, forget about shark shields. You won't see me or Slim using them on the Clarence.

But you won't see us at Shark bay without them. It is kinda sharky around here and if you plan to fish off shore, even in relatively close, yes, I highly recommend a shark shield. I know Slim will tell you the same thing. Both of us have seen enough to know that they work, and also seen enough to know what might very well happen if you're caught out without one.

That said... I have spent far more time out there without one than I have with one (only owned it for a year) and until I moved to this region, I could count shark sightings on two hands, and that includes a lot of time in open water around Vic, NSW and a good deal of the QLD coast. Last year I did have a GWS get up close and personall without a SS handy, and I survived it just fine. So no, not essential, but highly desirable... especially in these parts.

I am so glad to hear it Josh-------as you know ----but with this added ----one or two paintings sold and wham - away I go--it is interesting that what we fear becomes a reality - ADDICTIONS maybe I should have put that up of what I fear about Yak Fishing - addictions - and having been a blue water yachty I now want to go back to the blue and fish over where I could not get a house to rent-------and then with a VHF and a S S ..........addictions - don't you hate them -
