Lake Illawarra Squidgy comp round 7

Postby Parko29 » Sun Jul 25, 2010 6:58 pm

The day started of early and as i was driving down there it started to rain, but it turned out to be a magic day.Once the boats took off, we left it was a long peddle to the first spot which was about 30mins. I got a flatty in the same spot where i got the Bream last week. After about 1 hr of catching flattys i decide to move on and around the bay, but got the same result, more flatty's.Can't wait for the flatty comp next year!! :snic: :snic: I made my way up to the power station where i got more flatty's, I pushed on past the creek and fished the inlet for the station. when some tool in a boat, must of ran out of lake to fish, because he came straight in and fished the water in front of me. :mad1: All the other boats gave me heaps of room but not this tool.So it was time to start making the way back when i found some shimering water but it was only tailor hitting the bait fish. After catching a few of them i pushed over to the other side where i got nothing. It was a tough day and was glad to see the end of it. :snic: :snic: It was another well run event, thanks to all involed for a good day.

Will have to agree with you Parko, it was a tough ol day. I didnt enter, but went down for a look to see what the comps are like. After all the boats and yaks dispersed, I set up ready for a fish and :bb: :beat: :bb: :beat: :bb: :beat: :bb: no bloody paddle :bb: :beat: :beat: :bb: :beat: luckily the lovely event promoters babysat my yak and gear while I ducked home.
Great day on the water apart from the breeze after lunch and a little drizzle, all up, 3 undersized flatties and 2 tailer.

Gday Parko

Mate your not wrong it was a long day with very few fish coming to to the kayak.
The day started off great with perfect conditions (no wind and the lake was flat as apart from the boat chop).
I headed straight for MacQuarrie Rivulet which took about 30min of pretty solid pedaling. My legs were glad when I arrived as they finally got a break. I was thinking that this is the place to be as the boats can't get in the entrance to this place but to my shock there were three boats already working the snags.

I fishing my way down to the railway bridge were I came up solid on a nice Bream. Put him on the lie detecter and you bewdy 25.5 to the fork, yeah baby my first legal SSBS Bream (well I thought it was) and it wasn't event 09:00 yet. I had one more hookup on a good bream but the hooks pulled (Not happy). I kept at it an hooked a Tailor but that was it for me. Nothing else.
I didn't take alot of pics today due to battery issues but thankfully Parko was on hand.
I honestly thought there was going to be more entrants but I think the fact that it is a hard place to fish that people got scared and couldn't be bothered. I myself think that it makes it an even playing field and sorts out the boys from the men.

Anyway here are a couple of pics that I took. Another great but hard comp put on again from the boys and girls at Basin Lure and Fly. Keep up the great work peoples, you might not hear it alot but thanks for all the effort.

Butts...

mate that is harsh , very very harsh .its a shame your breambo didnt quite make the cut , better luck next time . imagine how good comps like that could be if commercial netting was to be banned in our little lake . would have been good to be out on the water today though . im wondering how much pressure do you all feel in comps like this ?
pbs bass (wild) 44.5cm fork (stocked) 42cm fork, flathead 56cm , yellowfin bream 39.7cm fork , black bream 39.4 fork , whiting 20 cm , tailor 30cm , snapper <30cm , flounder 25cm , pike 35cm , salmon 60.5cm

I drove past at 6-20AM on way home from work and it looked like Pitt St with all the boats lined up to use the ramp so I did not call in as parking was at a premium. Called back later for the presentation and it was good just to see what happens at the weigh ins. I think I will get a livewell and give one of the comps a go. It looks a lot of fun. It was good to catch up with all the yackers for a quick chat. Well done fellas. Gaz.

Gday Fella's

Brez - Harsh - Nah not really mate. Don't get me wrong I was spewing when the weigh master said "sorry mate this is undersize" My reply was an immediate "Bullsh##" (I hope the microphone didn't pick it up).

They are the rules and we have to abide by them. You win some and you lose some.

Gazzaguru - Mate you are not wrong. Cars (with boats) wound there way around the carpark and back out to the main road, they were every where. Would have been a ghost town after everyone had left until they all returned. And then it all started again.

Rug - Only 18 boats out of 42 weighed in fish and the biggest was .89 of a kilo. I know of two yaks that caught Bream but none where officially weighed (well none that counted anyway).
